DJ Flash Gordon Parks and the New Houston Movement

One of Heights Vinyl favorite local DJ’s, Flash Gordon is more than just a DJ. This summer he is working on a Video that will help document Houston’s rich history of music that often gets overlooked not only outside Houston, but also internally. His goal to preserve this History and seperate fact from fiction.

He’s definitely part of the New Houston Movement. A new collective of Creative individuals, organizations and business’s that are working towards a singular, but muti-faceted goal. This being, the awakening of a new, grass-roots burgeoning Creative Culture in Houston, Tx. One, that no longer is being creatively drained by it’s over saturated sister city. An opportunistic city. One that isn’t constrained by a definition. One that is being defined and undefined as we speak.

It’s an exciting time to be Houston,Tx. And there was a time, even I, wouldn’t mutter these words. But now say it with confidence. With assurance. And with Pride.

	Featured Record: A Native of Cameroon, Dibango has made a lasting career by fusing Afro w/Jazz. Most famously, he is the one that originated the phrase "Ma-ma-se, ma-ma-sa, ma-ma-koosa" best known from Michael Jackson's 1983 hit "Wanna Be Startin'Somethin" Of which he did w/o Manu's permission and was sued accordingly. GREAT Afro/Jazz/Pop! Condition: New - Ubiquity Records
	Featured Equipment: Sometimes you get that opportunity to have something where you'll be the "only kid on the block" with one. The Pioneer PL-X50 is it. This is a rare turntable from pioneer that is compact with a pushbutton retyractables tray. Its size is 12 1/2 inches wide, 8 inches deep and 3 7/8 inches high and about 20lp's.
